Petrol in a diesel strips the lubrication from the injection pump; diesel in a petrol engine fouls the spark plugs and injectors. As soon as the engine runs, the mixture spreads through the whole system, and the repair can cost several thousand euros.
On many recent cars, simply switching on the ignition starts the fuel pump. So don’t touch anything: keep the key out of the ignition, or the keyless fob away from the car.
On the spot, our driver drains the tank and flushes the system. If you’ve already driven and the engine has cut out, we tow the car to the garage: the injection may need checking.

AdBlue has its own tank: poured into the fuel, it quickly damages the system.
Don’t even switch on the ignition: the hazard lights work without it.
The staff can help you move the car away from the pump.
