Air-con recharge
Why it weakens

A sealed system that loses a little every year

The air-con gas circulates in a pressurised system. Over time, it slowly escapes through the seals: the air comes out less and less cold, and the compressor works harder.

Recharging without looking for the leak means paying twice. Before every recharge, we test the system for leaks; if a part is leaking, we tell you before filling it.

There are two gases: R134a, in most cars from before 2017, and R1234yf in newer ones. They mustn’t be mixed: we use the one your car is designed for.

The signs

When should you recharge your air-con?

The air comes out warm

Even on maximum, the cabin no longer really cools down.

A musty smell

When the fan starts: often bacteria in the system.

Over 2 years without a service

The system has probably lost some of its gas.

Windscreen slow to demist

In winter too, the air-con dries the air in the cabin.
