When the engine starts to splutter and the fuel light has been on for a while, don’t push it: switch on the hazard lights and pull over to the right while the car is still moving.
On the phone, tell us whether the car runs on petrol or diesel. We come with the right fuel, enough to go and fill up.
On a diesel, running dry can let air into the fuel system: sometimes it has to be bled before the engine will restart. And if the engine still won’t start, our driver tows the car.
